Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Stephen Asamoah Boateng has charged the National House of Chiefs (NHC) to adopt Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms in resolving chieftaincy issues.
He made the recommendation at the sixth sitting of the General House of the Northern Region House of Chiefs in Tamale.
The meeting was held to deliberate on issues of concern to the Chieftaincy Institutions.
The Minister indicated that it will help a great deal if the Northern Region House of Chiefs adopts the “Alternative Dispute Resolution” mechanism in finding lasting solutions to Chieftaincy issues rather than the judicial system.
He added also that qualifications with regard to the line of succession should be done quickly to prevent the numerous Chieftaincy issues.
He also mentioned that the rehabilitation of the Conference Hall of the House has already been assigned to a contractor (Boison Construction Limited) who has started work and assured them of its completion before his next visit.
Hon. Stephen Asamoah Boateng called on traditional authorities to embrace the fact that our tradition cannot be thrown away which is why the 1992 Constitution guaranteed and preserved the institutions of Chieftaincy under “The Chieftaincy Act, 2008 (ACT 759).
The Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs expressed how Chieftaincy institutions are dear to his heart, especially the five Northern Regions and further elaborated that his office is poised to accelerate the operations of the Ministry in delivering on its mandate.
This, he exemplified with the early disbursement of allowance since the assumption of office as the sector minister.
He established that the development of Chieftaincy institutions is taking a new direction at a fast pace.
The Northern Region House of Chiefs in expressing their appreciation to the Honourable Minister presented to him a special traditional smock which was also to reaffirm their collective desire to effectively collaborate with the sector minister in the execution of his mandate for the success of the Chieftancy institutions.
