The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, is scheduled to present the government’s 2024 Annual Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament on November 15, 2023.

This announcement was made by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, during a parliamentary session, Tuesday, 31 October 2023.

Speaker Bagbin emphasised the importance of scrutinising the budget to ensure it meets the needs of all Ghanaians. He called for a consultative and consensus-building approach during the process, highlighting the Parliament’s demonstrated capacity and experience in budget approval deliberations.

The Speaker also stressed the urgency of passing the budget bill, as it would enable Parliament to engage additional technical personnel, aligning the institution with the imperatives of recent legislations passed by the house.

The Finance Minister, during a visit to communities affected by the Akosombo and Kpong Dam spillage, mentioned that the 2024 budget would consider long-term relief measures for the victims.

He noted that while the government had already provided some relief items for the affected individuals, further support would be included in next year’s budget.

Mr Ofori-Atta expressed the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of the affected communities and ensuring that social interventions are carried out in a meaningful and effective way, both immediately and in the upcoming budget.
