The Vice President and one of the Flagbearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has secured 77.04% of the votes cast by NPP delegates in the USA.
At the end of polls conducted on November 1, 2023, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia secured 208 votes to beat Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong (22.22%, 60 votes), Hon. Owusu Afriyie Akoto (0.37%, 1 vote) and Hon. Francis Addai-Nimoh (0.37% 1, vote.)
The voting was in line of NPP’s tradition established in their bylaws.
In a Press Release issued by the NPP-USA Branch, it noted that it has since concluded the exercise of their internal poll for the NPP Presidential Primary Election of 2023.
“We communicate the results of our internal democratic exercise that took place to ascertain which among our esteemed presidential hopefuls would carry the banner of NPP-USA’s support. Through a process emblematic of our unwavering commitment to the democratic principle of One-Member One-Vote (OMOV), our members in good standing have exercised their right to vote, culminating in a decisive outcome,” it said.
The Press Release also mentioned that, active participation saw 270 of the 411 eligible members casting their votes and based on the votes as tallied, “Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received 208 votes, representing 77.04% of the votes cast. Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong received 60 votes (22.22%), while Hon. Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Hon. Francis Addai-Nimoh each secured 1 vote, representing 0.37% each.”
The party, in adherence to the ‘winner-take-all’ policy, declared that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will be the recipient of the complete endorsement of NPP-USA’s twelve (12) delegate votes in the upcoming elections on November 4th.
“Furthermore, as stipulated in Article 13 of the NPP-USA bylaws, delegates are mandated to cast their votes accordingly. The branch seizes this moment to unequivocally restate its steadfast dedication to endorsing and supporting the candidate who triumphs on November 4th.”
The party also called for unity in their resolve to contribute positively to the party’s success and the forward march of Ghana.
