Davido acknowledges his Grammy nominations with glee

Must Read

Davido has acknowledged his Grammy nominations with glee, insinuating the importance of patience.

His first time being nominated, the singer-songwriter, producer and music executive appeared in three categories, courtesy his latest 17-track album.

The Nigerian Afrobeats star received nominations in the Best Global Music Performance (Feel), Best African Music Performance (Unavailable featuring Musa Keys) and Best Global Music Album (Timeless) categories.

On X, the day the Recording Academy unveiled the nominees, Friday, November 10, 2023, the 30BG boss wrote: “3 nominations at the Grammys!! Delay is not denial [trophy and world emojis].”

Apart from Davido, three other Nigerians earned nominations: Burna Boy for his Black Panther soundtrack contribution Alone (Best Global Music Performance), his I Told Dem… album (Best Global Music Album) and its tracks City Boy (Best African Music Performance) and Sittin’ On Top of the World featuring 21 Savage (Best Melodic Rap Performance); Asake and his label boss, Olamide, for their Amapiano (Best African Music Performance); Tems for her work with Rihanna on Lift Me Up (Best Song Written for Visual Media); and Ayra Starr for her Rush (Best African Music Performance).

Jon Batiste’s World Music Radio and Janelle Monáe’s The Age of Pleasure had Nigerians Fireboy DML and CKay on them respectively. However, these do not count as nominations for the latter because they did not contribute at least 20 per cent of the material on the project, per Recording Academy rules.

The 66th Grammy awards ceremony of 11 fields and 94 categories will take place on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.

The world’s only peer-voted awards, the Grammys are acclaimed as the highest honour in the music awards industry.
