Organisers of the Ghana Music Awards USA, Don’s Music Production, last Friday held a big press soiree; with major music industry players passing through to make the night eventful.
The Soiree, according to the organisers, was to take feedback from the media and music industry players about the awards scheme and to suggest more effective ways of making it beneficial to the Ghanaian music industry.
CEO of Don’s Music Production, the Don, said at the Soiree, that GMA Awards has had challenging times with the media and therfore the interaction was to know where the disconect was and also roll out GMA USA’s plans for the year.
The Soiree also ushered the 5th edition of the awards ceremony, slated for August 17, 2024, and nominations for the various categories were also opened.
To qualify for nominations, songs to be filed must have been released between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023.
The nominee announcement will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024.
Several artists and industry great such as Wuta Kobby, Keche and media personalities like Halifa Ansah- Addo, Ashes, Kwabena Kwabena’s manager, Mona Gucci, Papa Bill’s of Adom FM, Kojo Preko of Focap, Nana Kwame Gyan, Kofi Duah of Daily Graphic, Jay Foli, Jerry Justice of Adom Fm, Micheal Antwi Agyei, Editor of Ghanaian Observer and vice president of Private Independent Newspaper and Online Publishers Association of Ghana,(PRINPAG), Naana Akleh Kubi Amenyah I, Djaase Nye of Ada traditional area and editor of NewsDay newspaper, Ernest Addo, Editor of the New Crusading GUIDE newspaper, Elvis Asiedu Antwi, Executive Secretary to the Sempe Mantse, Nii Adotey Otintor, who also is the Mankralo of the Ga State, and Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of the Campaigneonline.com news portal, amongst others, joined other music enthusiasts at the Soho restaurant in Marina Mall in Accra to make the night a memorable one.
The award categories are: Best Afropop Artiste, Discovery Act of the Year, Rapper of the Year, Female Artiste of the Year, Male Artiste of the Year, Best Gospel Song of the Year, Gospel Artiste of the Year, Best Male Vocalist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year, among others.
GMA-USA, since its inception, has given Ghanaian music prominence in the United States of America.
At the last awards ceremony, Black Sherif won the topmost prize, the Artiste of the Year, last year. Other winners were Camidoh, Piesie Esther, and Samini.
