Thirteen people biten by dog with rabies treated and discharged

Some thirteen individuals are being treated for suspected rabies after they were bitten by a stray dog at Gomoa Dominase in the Central Region.

According to residents the stray dog in the last few days has been biting residents within the enclave in a fierce manner, something which is quite unusual.

In all over thirteen persons have fallen victim to the dog.

Some victims who spoke to the media, say the dog is not noted in the community and are quite surprise that a dog is on the run biting residents of Dominase.

“I was sitting close to a church and I saw the dog pass. But all of a sudden I saw it closer to me and before I realized it had bitten me. I didn’t take it serious in the beginning but I begun feel weak and rushed to the hospital. I was told I had rabies. I was treated and discharged but I got to know that it had bitten thirteen others”Randy Yamoah said.

According to Assemblyman for the area, the dog is being hunted for by local residents. All thirteen victims that were attacked have been treated and discharged by the Potsin Polyclinic.

The Gomoa East Health Directorate however says samples from the dog will be taken to the lab if found to prevent an outbreak.

“Within the community we have identified more cases. Over thirteen dog bites within this community. Cases that have been reported within Gomoa Potsin, Gomoa Buduatta and Gomoa Dominase have been given the needed anti rabies vaccines and discharged. But residents and traditional authorities have begun a search for the particular dog that has been doing this and ensure that sample will be taken from it for sampling. The DCE and Police have been informed accordingly”Felix Agyamang Adipare the District Health Director said.
