C&AG exorcised all ghosts from gov’t payroll

Must Read

Mr Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, the Controller and Accountant General, has said the national payroll database is now devoid of ghost names, thanks to the successful implementation of a comprehensive digital solution.

The system incorporates the integration of the Government of Ghana (GOG) National Mechanised Payroll Database from the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) with the National Identification Authority (NIA) database.

The real-time biometric validation and verification processes have been decentralised to various CAGD verification centres nationwide, ensuring heightened accessibility and convenience.

However, Mr Kwaning-Bosompem issued a caution that as of March 2024, any public sector worker without a Ghana card risks forfeiting their salary.

Speaking at the 2024 Controller and Accountant General’s Department Annual Conference in Kumasi, Bosompem stated, “The payroll database has been an active database all these years”.

“What it means is that we’ve gone through a process of putting intervention in place to make sure the payroll database is credible and that there would not be any instance where we’ll find an unauthorized person existing on the payroll and benefiting from the government’s resources…” he added.

Responding to journalists’ queries, Kwaning-Bosompem asserted, “…There are no recent occurrences of ghost names on the government’s payroll…”
