UNESCO To Hold Africa And America Cooperation Mission In May

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), is embarking on an Africa and America Cooperation Mission to bring together members of the two continents.

The event which is scheduled to take place on May 1, 2024 in Maryland-Washington DC and New York, is under the auspices of the American Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations.

It aims at bringing together UNESCO Clubs in all 50 states of the United States to meet Africa so as to get its representations in Africa as it is in other parts of the world, with the aim of strengthening the transfer of knowledge and experience between economic and political players in the United States and the rest of the world.

UNESCO Clubs and Associations are organizations of volunteers of different ages and socio-professional status who become activists in the service of UNESCOโ€™s ideals.

In a press release, it was indicated that Clubs for UNESCO have three main functions which include training, information and action and they work to solve global problems with local repercussions, thus contributing to the process of reflection on social priorities.

According to UNESCO, it strengthens the impact of the Clubs by promoting cooperation with program sectors, field offices and the Organizationโ€™s main networks, such as the Associated Schools network.

Since August 21, 2023, Moussa KONE has been the West Africa Coordinator for the American Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations, with Mr. KONEโ€™s participation in a U.S. government program called YALI (Young African Leaders Initiative), initiated by President Barack Obama, aimed at building the capacity of young African leaders who have made an impact on their communities in Sub-Saharan Africa.

It said, the American Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations as an instrument is an opportunity for West Africa to Strengthen economic growth in the sub-region, Promote economic exchanges between Cรดte dโ€™Ivoire, West African countries and the United States, Promote the participation of private companies in our countryโ€™s development process through business missions to the United States and other countries around the world and Contribute to the economic, social and cultural progress of West Africa through the organization of various activities.

It also enables Ivorian political leaders (Mayors, Senators, Deputies, Regional Councilors and Governors) to benefit from funding and/or aid programs, capacity building and experience sharing for local and rural governance and to create a network of Ivorian, West African and American business leaders, with the aim of contributing to the realization of projects with a high social impact in West Africa.
