Gomoa Omanhene worried over encroachment activities by Effutus

Must Read

The Gomoa Assin Traditional Council under whose jurisdictions lies all the Gomoa towns say they are not happy over encroachment activities by the Effutu people.

According the Omanhene of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Council Ahunakor Ahor Ankobea the trend if not stopped can result in confrontation between the two Traditional authorities.

“We have sat unconcerned as the Effutu people take over our land. I spoke to the Minister of Chieftancy and Culture during one of his visit to the Regional House of Chiefs and prompted him that there is tension between the two Traditional Authorities. I made it clear that tension if not stopped wil be bigger than that of Bawku, South Sudan or even Russia and Ukraine. We have met with the Effutu people but it did not yield result and we want to meet again. But I am sounding a warning to my sub Chiefs who have intention of selling our land to the Effutu people. If you are caught you will be distooled. They have even gone to the extent of snatching one community and named it New Winneba. What is happening is not the best and we want government to intervene if it wants peace”Obirifu Ahunakor Ankobea II said.

The two ethnic groups have had recurring land dispute with the last few weeks seeing various traditional leaders from the two factions throwing fire at each other.

The tussle has been reignited by a recent claim by some traditional leaders from Atekyedo under the Effutu traditional area that Okyereko lands fall under Effutu enclave l.

Speaking at an annual gathering of chiefs in the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area, the Omanhene Obirifo Ahunakor Ahor Ankobea II urged government to intervene in the matter.

“Government must intervene if they want peace of mind. They are not treating us fairly this is because they have someone in government who speaks for them. I am urging my subjects to be aware of this trend by the Effutu people” the Omanhene said.
