Newmont Appoints Ing. Aniawu-Asumakah as First Female Chief Metallurgist

Newmont Ghana Gold Limited (NGGL) has appointed Ing. Margaret Aniawu-Asumakah as its first female Chief Metallurgist for the Africa Business Unit.

Ing. Aniawu-Asumakah’s remarkable journey, from overcoming early math struggles to excelling in engineering at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), sets a new standard for women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

With a distinguished career spanning roles at AngloGold Ashanti and Chirano Gold Mines Limited, Mrs. Aniawu-Asumakah brings expertise to Newmont’s Ahafo North Project. Previously, she made history as Chirano Gold Mines Limited’s first female Process Manager, a position she ascended to from Process Superintendent.

In 2021, Ing. Aniawu-Asumakah received the prestigious Female Mining Professional Award at the 7thh Ghana Mining Industry Awards organised by the Ghana Chamber of Mines, solidifying her position as a trailblazer in the industry.

Mrs. Aniawu-Asumakah began her career at Anglogold Ashanti, Obuasi, holding several senior positions. Her achievement inspires future generations to break barriers in male-dominated industries.
