Minority accuses Appointments Committee chair of obstructing diligent vetting

Must Read

The Minority caucus in Parliament has accused the First Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, of obstructing constructive and effective scrutiny during the vetting of ministerial nonominees.

The allegations surfaced during the vetting of key nominees, including Ato Forson, the Minister of Finance-designate; Dominic Ayine, the Minister of Justice-designate; and John Jinapor, the Minister of Energy-designate. The vetting sessions reportedly witnessed heightened tensions between the Minority Leader and the Committee Chairman.

In a press conference led by Gideon Boako, Member of Parliament for Tano North, the Minority criticized the chairman for what they described as deliberate attempts to hinder the vetting process

“Members of the committee were denied access to the CVs of the nominees. When the CVs were eventually sent, the chairman of the committee did not allow them to be properly examined,” Boako stated. He further alleged, “The deliberate refusal to provide the CVs of the nominees to committee members in advance and the refusal to invite questions on the CVs were calculated attempts to obstruct constructive and effective scrutiny of the nominees.”

The Minority also accused the chairman of excessive partisanship, which they claim undermined the committee’s work and compromised the integrity of the vetting process.
