Parliament has given its nod to the first batch of ministerial nominees for President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, marking a significant milestone in shaping the government’s leadership team.
The approved nominees include Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson as Minister for Finance, Mr. John Abdulai Jinapor as Minister for Energy, and Dr. Dominic Akruitinga Ayine as Attorney-General and Minister for Justice. Their appointments followed an extensive vetting process and rigorous debate in Parliament.
The Appointments Committee conducted the vetting on January 13, scrutinizing the nominees’ qualifications, experience, and strategic vision for their respective portfolios. The committee’s report was subsequently submitted to the House for deliberation, sparking detailed discussions on the nominees’ competence and plans for addressing critical national challenges.
During Tuesday’s plenary session, presided over by Second Deputy Speaker Andrew Amoako Asiamah, Parliament formally approved the nominees after a majority vote.
The confirmation of these appointments signifies a pivotal step in President Mahama’s efforts to assemble a capable team to deliver on his administration’s priorities.
Dr. Forson, now confirmed as Finance Minister, is expected to lead efforts to stabilize the economy and implement key fiscal reforms. As Energy Minister, Mr. Jinapor will oversee initiatives to address energy security and advance renewable energy projects. Dr. Ayine, as Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, will play a crucial role in strengthening the legal framework and promoting justice reform.
The new ministers are set to assume their roles immediately, as stakeholders across the nation anticipate their contributions to addressing Ghana’s pressing challenges and driving the administration’s development agenda.
