A tragic incident occurred at Dzita in the Anloga District of the Volta Region on Monday, January 20, when a man in his late 30s drowned in a swimming pool at a hotel.

The incident took place at approximately 3:05 p.m. at the “Meet Me There” hotel, where the deceased had checked in with two female companions for leisure.

Dr. David Normanyo, the Assembly Member for the area, confirmed the incident in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA). He stated that the deceased, his wife, and his sister-in-law were swimming in the pool when the unfortunate event unfolded.

“The report I received indicates that the three individuals were enjoying a leisure stay at the hotel. They were swimming together when the tragic incident occurred,” Dr. Normanyo said.

The victim was rushed to a hospital in Anloga but was pronounced dead on arrival. The two women involved in the incident were unharmed.

According to Dr. Normanyo, the deceased and his companions were visiting Dzita from Accra for the first time to enjoy a recreational stay at the hotel.

“The families of the deceased have been informed, but we are withholding his name to avoid any potential internal family issues until the necessary investigations are completed,” he explained.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Keta Municipal Hospital morgue for examination and autopsy.

Dr. Normanyo added that the incident has left many residents in shock, as this is the first such occurrence in the area in over 40 years.

He urged residents to remain calm as police investigations continue into the matter.
