The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed a petition submitted by nine of the party’s flagbearer aspirants to hold the super delegates congress in a centralised location in the upcoming 26 August primaries.
The nine aspirants, with the exception of the vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, were demanding a centralized system of voting for the upcoming special delegates’ conference.
They expressed concerns about the current plan to limit voting to only 900 delegates at the regional level.
According to sources, all nine aspirants or their representatives are present, anticipating a final decision on the matter.
With this dismissal, it lives to be seen whether the aspirants would make do with their threat to boycot the primaries as was the whisper in certain circles.
It would determine the approach for conducting the special delegates conference and streamline the list of presidential aspirants from 10 to 5, in accordance with the party’s constitution.
In the lead-up to the special delegates’ congress, the NPP revealed its intentions to compile a new register to accommodate changes in the delegate list.
