Buguri Naabu admits recording conversation against IGP

Must Read

Former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Daniel Bugri Naabu, has confirmed the authenticity of the leaked tape that allegedly captured discussions about a plot to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo-Dampare, from his position.

Bugri Naabu confirmed the veracity of the tape during his appearance before the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee tasked with investigating the alleged plot against the IGP.

In his candid testimony, Bugri Naabu affirmed that the contentious conversation did take place between himself and three high-ranking Police Officers.

He identified these officers as Commander Asare, COP Mensah, and Superintendent Gyebi.

He disclosed that the conversation occurred in his office located in Osu, near the Osu Police Station.

According to his account, the two senior officers approached him with the agenda to advocate the removal of the IGP.

Their reasoning was that Dr Akuffo-Dampare’s actions were perceived to align more closely with the interests of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), potentially affecting the governing party’s chances in the upcoming 2024 elections.

Mr Bugri Naabu revealed that he recorded the conversation to safeguard against any potential denial by the officers.

He expressed that their request made him uneasy, prompting him to take precautions.

The Ad-Hoc Committee, led by Samuel Atta-Akyea, a respected Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, has been established to investigate the leaked tape’s authenticity and the complex allegations associated with it.

The committee also includes legal and human rights specialist Dr Isaac Lartey Annan.
