Assin North Inner town roads see face-lift ahead of June 27 by-elections

Must Read

Some residents within Assin Bereku in the Assin North District of the Central Region are surprised with the turn of event after the announcement of a by-elections in the area on June 27.

This comes after the embattled MP for the area James Gyakye Quayson was asked by the Supreme Court to step aside for fresh elections to be held after he was accused of breaching article 92 2a of the 1992 constitution which prohibits a person from holding dual citizenship.

Some residents however are blaming the Central government for the lack of development in the enclave adding that the by-election is what has pushed the Central government to carry out road construction.

Construction works have begun in earnest at Assin Bereku the District Capital of Assin North constituency.

Residents hold divided opinion about the development with some being of the view that campaigns are done based on developmental projects and so do not see anything wrong with the move by the incumbent government. Others also believe the move is to score political point and to convince voters for their vote.

“It is surprising seeing construction work happening at Assin Bereku because the inner town road started several months ago but has been abandoned then all of a sudden this government starts constructing roads because of by-election. We welcome the move but we know who to vote for” Patricia Appiagyei a resident said.

Campaigns are done based on developmental projects and this is what convinces the ordinary person to vote so I don’t see anything wrong with this move by the government”Emmanuel Amoh a resident also added.

By – elections

Two candidates are contesting for the only slot to represent the New Patriotic Party ahead of next week’s elections by the New Patriotic Party to elect a candidate to face off with the NDC’s James Gyakye Quayson who is the obvious choice of the NDC.

The two candidates Charles Opoko and Fredrick Freeman Amoah Kyei are hoping they will be elected to represent the New Patriotic Party.

However supporters of both candidates are rallying behind their candidate to emerge victorious.
