NPP gets 5 aspirants to contest November 4 election

Must Read

The  New Patriotic Party has finally settled on all five aspirants eligible to contest in its  November 4 flagbearer race after Boakye Agyarko dropped out of the race.

Francis Addai-Nimoh and Boakye Agyarko were due for a runoff on September 2, 2023, after they garnered the same number of votes in last Saturday’s Super Delegates. However, Agyarko declined  to participate, citing some legal issues

“I refuse to be a part of such an act that seeks to unjustly truncate a previously agreed upon process, and cannot be part of what is about to be done on Saturday, 2nd September 2023. I cannot, with a clear conscience make such an impermissible concession to such an errant decision. I, therefore, respectfully, serve this notice to refrain from such a contest. As always, I wish the party well,”  Mr Agyarko said in a statement issued on Thursday

He added, “Rules and regulations that are flip-flopped in such a manner are only detrimental to fair play and justice. It is a clear violation of the party’s constitution and the guidelines for the Special Electoral College. It is an unconstitutional act which I cannot allow myself to be associated with.”

The party in a statement said the runoff will no longer be held following Mr Agyarko’s withdrawal.

“We take notice of your decision to withdraw from the contest and therefore the run-off election scheduled for Saturday, September 2, 2023, will no longer be held,” it said,
