GFA elections: George Afriyie disqualified

Must Read

The Election Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has disqualified George Afriyie, the former vice president of the association, from participating in the upcoming Elective Congress.

George Afriyie had publicly expressed his intention to challenge the incumbent president, Kurt Okraku, in the forthcoming presidential elections and subsequently submitted his nomination.

This decision follows an earlier announcement of the suspension of the electoral timetable due to ongoing court proceedings. However, the Election Committee has now revealed the outcome of their vetting process, stating that George Afriyie did not meet the necessary requirements to contest the high office of the GFA.

The Committee cited a breach of “Article 13(2)(j) of the Ghana Football Association statutes, 2019,” as well as “failure to provide the required number of Ghana Football Association members to support your [George Afriyie’s] candidature” as the primary reasons for his disqualification.

George Afriyie has been granted a three-day window to appeal the decision of the Election Committee
