The Adaklu Constituency is celebrating the nomination of its Member of Parliament, Mr. Governs Kwame Agbodza, as the Minister-designate for Roads and Highways by President John Dramani Mahama. The announcement, made on Thursday, January 16, 2025, has been met with widespread jubilation and commendations from the community.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency leadership, local chiefs, and residents have praised Mr. Agbodza’s nomination, describing it as a testament to his tireless contributions to the constituency’s development.

Mr. Hayford Amenuvie, the Constituency Secretary, in a statement to the Ghana News Agency, highlighted Mr. Agbodza’s relentless efforts in promoting employment opportunities for the youth, initiating development projects, and advocating for the constituency’s progress. “Your nomination is a reflection of your dedication to public service and the welfare of the people. We are confident you will bring the same passion and expertise to your new role,” the statement said.

The statement also expressed optimism that Mr. Agbodza’s leadership at the ministry would lead to significant improvements in the country’s road infrastructure, benefiting not just Adaklu but the entire nation.

In a show of cultural appreciation, Togbe Lablulu Tegbeza IV, the paramount chief of Adaklu Waya, led a delegation of traditional leaders to the NDC party office to pour libation and thank the gods for Mr. Agbodza’s elevation. “We are grateful to President Mahama for fulfilling his campaign promise and recognizing the competence of our son,” said Togbe Tegbeza’s linguist, Tsiami Kpotaka.

Community members have also expressed high expectations for Mr. Agbodza’s tenure at the ministry, citing his history of championing initiatives to improve livelihoods in Adaklu. Mr. Jerry Ameko, Adaklu Constituency NDC Chairman, called for patience from Ghanaians as the government works to address challenges with road infrastructure. “The task is enormous, but we believe Mr. Agbodza has the capability to deliver remarkable results,” he said.

If confirmed by Parliament, Mr. Agbodza will become the second person from Adaklu to serve as Minister for Roads and Highways in Ghana’s Fourth Republic, following the late Steve Akorli, who held the position in 2000 under President Jerry John Rawlings.

The nomination is seen as a significant milestone for the Adaklu constituency, sparking hopes for enhanced development and increased national recognition of the area’s contributions to Ghana’s political and infrastructural landscape.
