The Deputy Coordinator of TEIN-CR, a student wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for the appointment of Mr. Samuel Kwesi Fletcher as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Volta River Authority (VRA).
In a facebook post, Mr. Nsarullah Ibn Mutawakil highlights Fletcher’s unwavering support for the party, his dedication to the NDC, and his significant contributions over the years.
According to the post, Mr. Fletcher, a respected figure from Gomoa-West, stood firm in defense of the NDC government during the tumultuous era of power outages, often referred to as “Dumsor,” and was a vocal advocate for the party’s position in the face of criticism from NPP communicators. His efforts were praised for providing consistent support at a time when the government was under heavy scrutiny.
The post also details Fletcher’s long history of service to the NDC, including his role as the Head of Corporate Communications at the VRA until 2017, when his position was revoked after the NPP assumed power. Despite the challenges he faced, Fletcher continued his political engagement, actively participating in party activities and supporting constituencies across the Central and Western Regions during the 2020 and 2024 general elections.
Fletcher’s political background includes serving as a parliamentary candidate for Gomoa West in the 2016 elections, as well as holding key positions within the NDC, including Vice Chairman of the Central Regional Communications Committee, Member of the Central Regional Greater Accra Caucus, and Chairman of the Gomoa West Fundraising Committee. He is also involved in several strategic committees such as the Business Development and Entrepreneurship Subcommittee of the 2024 Manifesto Committee.
The TEIN-CR Deputy Coordinator emphasized that while Fletcher’s appointment should not be seen as a reward for his political loyalty, his qualifications, extensive experience in corporate communications, and leadership abilities make him an ideal candidate for the position of VRA CEO. His deep connection to the grassroots, the letter suggests, would strengthen the party’s presence within communities and foster greater unity.
The post concludes with a strong endorsement for Fletcher’s appointment, urging President Mahama to consider his candidacy as a sign that the sacrifices made by dedicated party members are valued and recognized.
