Ashanti NPP Founding Members Call for Unity and Strategic Reforms

Must Read

Founding members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region have urged party members to embrace unity and focus on strategic reforms following the party’s loss in the 2024 elections.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Kofi Nsiah Amponsah, Secretary to the Ashanti Regional Founding Members, called for an end to internal divisions, blame games, and finger-pointing. Instead, he emphasized the need for introspection and reorganization to secure the party’s future success.

“Blame games and accusations won’t help us. We need to identify and address the factors that led to our defeat, such as the delegate system, candidate impositions, arrogance, and abuse of power,” Mr. Nsiah Amponsah said.

He pointed to voter apathy as a major contributor to the party’s poor performance, recalling similar challenges in 2008. He noted, “Every time apathy sets in, it pushes us straight into opposition.”

The Secretary also highlighted the neglect of the party’s founding members, urging their inclusion in decision-making processes. “The founding fathers who risked their lives to establish the NPP must now be recognized and actively involved. A party that fails to honor its heroes is not worth sacrificing for,” he remarked.

Chairman of the founding members’ group, Mr. Kofi Obiri Yeboah, called for calm among party members, stressing the importance of an unbiased review of the election defeat. “We must diagnose the root causes of our loss and come up with objective solutions to move forward,” he said.

Mr. Obiri Yeboah proposed forming an inclusive review committee to spearhead the party’s reorganization and ensure holistic reforms. “The task ahead is daunting, but with unity and determination, we can overcome and restore the party’s strength,” he added.

The founding members reiterated their commitment to rebuilding the NPP, calling on all party members to work collectively towards a brighter future.
