Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak, has laid the blame for the recent violent incidents in Obuasi on Onua TV.
He accused the television station of allowing its platform to be used to incite violence by one of its staff members.
In a statement shared on Facebook, Mubarak expressed his disapproval, stating: “Place the blame of the very unfortunate events in Obuasi squarely at the doorsteps of Onua TV, which allowed its platform to be used to incite violence by one of its staff.”
The former MP warned against media platforms misusing the freedom of speech to fuel lawlessness, calling for accountability within the media space. He stressed that Ghana cannot afford to tolerate such indiscipline and thuggery.
“We’ve come a long way and must not, in the name of free speech, allow media houses to be used as vessels to incite violence. We can’t live in a country with such wanton indiscipline,” he added.
Mubarak called on Ghanaians to stand against acts of lawlessness, urging swift action to prevent a recurrence of such events. According to him, apathy toward these issues poses a significant threat to national peace.
