Users of the Kasoa-Winneba Highway are appalled by the deplorable nature of some sections of the highway, particularly the road from Awutu Bereku to Akoti junction.
Huge potholes have developed on the road, making it difficult for commuters to ply, thereby causing huge traffic on the road.
It is worse when using the Awutu Bereku to Akoti stretch of the highway, according to residents who ply the road.
Traffic situation on weekends is mostly unbearable with the jam starting from Kasoa and ending at Akotsi junction whiles that of the Winneba-Kasoa section starts from Buduata and ends at Krispol City in Kasoa, all in the central region.
The situation is mainly caused by the numerous potholes developed on the stretch between Buduburam and Gomoa Akotsi.
A volunteer Alpha has, however, offered to constantly fill the potholes. He tells this reporter how four vehicles got stuck this morning, Friday, July,7 2023.
“The situation is bad at the Gomoa Akotsi section of the Kasoa Cape Coast highway as the huge potholes and gullies are creating a mess. I have taken it upon myself to be filling the potholes with sand, which is just a temporary measure. Authorities use this road but have turned a deaf ear to the situation, ” Alpha narrated.
On a busy weekend, the seven kilometre journey from Gomoa Buduburam to Akotsi would usually take over two hours to cover instead of the five minutes.
Road users are not happy about the development, especially when the proposal for the dualization of the road has surfaced in previous government budget statements and official speeches of President Akufo Addo.
They are demanding the fixing of the road as quickly as possible.
