Development Economist Dr. Nii Moi Thompson has been appointed Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), pending consultations with the Council of State. Dr. Thompson, who previously served as the Director-General of the Commission, played a pivotal role in overseeing the preparation of Ghana’s 40-Year Development Plan.
Between 2014 and 2015, Dr. Thompson led Ghana’s technical delegations to the United Nations, where he contributed to the development of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and guided their integration into Ghana’s national development agenda.
As Chairman of the NDPC, Dr. Thompson is expected to work closely with key stakeholders, including the Minister for Finance, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, the Government Statistician, and representatives from all sixteen regions of the country. His role will involve providing strategic advice to the President and Parliament on policies to drive Ghana’s development.
In a related appointment, President John Dramani Mahama has named Mr. Albert Kwadwo Twum Boafo as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC), pending the reconstitution of the Board.
Mr. Twum Boafo, a Civil Engineer and Finance expert, previously served as the Chief Executive of the Ghana Free Zones Authority from 2009 to 2017. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering from the University of Wales, an MSc in Civil Engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, and an MBA in Finance and Investment Analysis from Stetson University in Florida, USA.

Both appointments are seen as critical to shaping Ghana’s economic and developmental policies in the coming years
