The Effutu Municipality in the Central Region have recorded some alarming figures of Hepatitis B virus.
According to the Member of Parliament for the area Alexander Afenyo Markin 2106 individuals were screened for the virus out of which 68 of them being pregnant women tested positive for the virus.
One hundred and forty eight children also tested positive for the virus whiles one hundred and eighty nine youth also tested positive for the virus.
The Member of Parliament who made this known during a two hall engagement indicated that he has committed an amount of one million cedis to help in screening and vaccination of persons within that enclave thus urging constituents to make themselves available during the exercise.
“We have got some alarming figures in the area of health.This is because a healthy body brings a healthy nation. 2106 of people were screened. 68 of them being pregnant women tested positive for the virus while over 148 children also tested positive. Most alarming of them is that over 189 of the youth also tested positive for the virus. But as the Member of Parliament I can’t sit and watch this destroy my constituency. I have committed an amount of one million cedis to help screening and vaccination of people within then constituency. Hepatitis B destroys our liver and may not show signs now until it gets to the chronic stage. A lot of our people are dying slowly but we will do our best to deal with it. The Member of Parliament expressed worry over the development adding that majority of people within that enclave are dying out of this disease.
