This year marks a monumental milestone for the GaDangme Association of Washington DC Metropolitan Area as we celebrate our 40th anniversary. Four decades of dedication, cultural preservation, and community service have brought us to this significant moment, and we are excited to commemorate this achievement with a grand celebration.
According to the Chairwoman Rowina Naa Odarkai Lamptey Moses, the Association is thrilled to announce a momentous occasion in the history of the GaDangme Association of Washington DC Metropolitan Area this year which marks the 40th anniversary and excited to celebrate this milestone with a grand fundraising dinner dance on September 27th 2025 at the Holiday Inn, College Park, Maryland.
Forty years ago, a group of GaDangme in the Washington Metropolitan Area decided to come together and form an association designed for cultural preservation, development, unity and to celebrate the annual homowo festival to showcase the cultural values of the GaDangme people.
Since its inception, the GaDangme Association has been a cornerstone for GaDangme individuals living in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. Our mission to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of the GaDangme people has remained steadfast, and our community has grown stronger with each passing year.
The 40th Anniversary celebration begun with an Open Health Walk and Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign on Saturday, 19th October 2024 at Burnt Mills West Park, 10701 Columbia Pike, Silver Spring. In Maryland, followed by donations to Shelter for Abuse Children, Teshie Orphanage, D-Rose Foundation, all in Accra.
The event was meticulously organized, with routes tailored with music to varying levels of fitness, ensuring that everyone participated, regardless of their physical conditions. The event prominently featured a breast cancer awareness campaign in parallel with the health walk. Dr. Tabot Mpey, Cardiovascular Fellow at the Howard University Hospital in Washington DC, medical professionals and volunteers provided crucial information about Cardiovascular, and breast cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment options.
The history has shaped the last 40 years with a nod and it’s a time to recount the significant milestones, the challenges overcome, and the successes that have defined the journey. Through speeches, presentations, and historical displays, attendees can walk down memory lane and appreciate the collective efforts that have brought them to this point.

Rowina Naa Odarkai Lamptey Moses emphasized that, special memorabilia and keepsakes of commemorative books, branded merchandise, and unique souvenirs will be given to guests to take home as a reminder of the event and the milestone it represents to mark the occasion.
Over the past forty years, the Association has achieved significant milestones in donating various items to schools, healthcare centers, and others that have played a crucial role in uplifting communities and fostering a sense of progress and empowerment.
