President John Dramani Mahama has directed the recall of Diplomatic and Service Passports issued during the previous Akufo-Addo administration as part of efforts to uphold the proper use and integrity of official travel documents.
A statement signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Executive Secretary to the President, and addressed to the Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, emphasized that the exercise aims to prevent misuse, protect Ghana’s reputation, and maintain diplomatic standards.
The Ministry has been tasked with the following measures:
- Public Notification: Issue a notice requiring all holders of such passports to return them for verification and possible re-issuance.
- Deadline for Compliance: Set a deadline of January 24, 2025, for the return of the recalled passports.
- Verification Process: Conduct a thorough review of returned passports to ensure eligibility under current issuance criteria.
The statement highlighted the importance of this initiative in preserving the credibility and efficiency of Ghana’s passport system.
“Your cooperation and prompt action will significantly contribute to achieving these goals. Please reach out to my office for any clarification or assistance needed in executing this critical exercise,” the statement concluded.
