The Winneba Municipal Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU), have handed over items retrieved from the travellers involved in the Gomoa Okyereko accident, where, over 15 persons died, to the GPRTU for identification and collection.
Items that were retrieved from the accident scene included a cash amount of USD 9,670 U.S Dollars with 2,630 Liberia Dollars, GHS 470 Ghana cedis and, 6 mobile phones.
The Winneba Divisional MTTU Commander, DSP Bertha Bogo, and her team handed over the other items to the Ghana Private Road Transport Union branch at Gomoa Budumburam, in the Central region.
Chairman of the Union at Budumburam camp, James Nuamah, received the items with the promise of handing them over to the right owners.
The Divisional MTTD Commander while addressing the press, indicated that 15 people were still on admission waiting to be discharged, while one of the victim who is in critical condition has ben transferred to the Korle bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
“This morning, we have handed over some monies in foreign currency, specifically dollars and some mobile phones to the GPRTU. These were items retrieved from the scene of the accident involving the Yutong bus and a tanker truck that was involved in a head-on collision at Gomoa Okyereko. I must also say that in all fifteen people are still on admission in Winneba while the rest have been discharged with the exception of one victim who has been transferred to the Korle – Bu Teching hospital”DSO Bertha Bogo said.
Mr James Nuamah, the Ghana-Liberia GPRTU Chairman and some family members who witnessed the handing over of items, were grateful to the police for doing the needful, adding that the items will be handed over to the rightful owners.
” I want to take this opportunity to thank the Winneba Police Command for handing over the items to us. We will also do our best by handing them over to the rightful owners.
They are therefore urging relatives of the deceased and travellers to go to the Liberia camp GPRTU office for identification and collection.
Some relatives of the affected persons who were at the Police station were permitted to identify the belongings of their relatives.
