Gyakye Quayson sworn in as MP for Assin North

The newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson has been sworn in .

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin administered the oath of allegiance as MP to Mr. Gyakye Quayson.

The ceremony was witnessed by bigwigs of the NDC as well as sympathizers of the party.

The Assin North seat became vacant when the Supreme Court ruled that Mr. Gyakye Quayson’s election as MP during the 2020 election is null and void.

Parliament of Ghana through the Clerk to Parliament, Cyril Kwabena Oteng Nsiah subsequently wrote to the Electoral Commission (EC) of the occurrence of a vacancy in the Assin North Constituency.

In a release dated May 31, 2023, the Electoral Commissioner, Jean Adukwei Mensah announced June 27, 2023, for the Assin North for a by-election.

The by-election which was fiercely contested had Mr. Gyakye Quayson secured 17,245 votes representing 57.56 percent and the NPP candidate Charles Opoku also had 42.15 percent of the votes.

Madam Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) obtained 0.29 percent.
