Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has carried out a significant reshuffle within the Ghana Police Service, reassigning 84 senior officers nationwide. The transfers involve officers moving between the Police Headquarters and various outstations.
Among those affected are Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Superintendent George Lysander Asare, who have been reassigned to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the Judicial Protection Unit, respectively.
Both officers were embroiled in the leaked tape scandal that revealed an alleged plot to remove former IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. They subsequently appeared before a parliamentary committee investigating the matter, where concerns were raised about their professional conduct in relation to police regulations. The committee recommended disciplinary action against them.
However, sources within the Police Service suggest that their new postings are being interpreted in some circles as promotions rather than disciplinary measures, raising concerns about the precedent it might set.
Meanwhile, COP George Alex Mensah, a key figure in the controversy, has since retired from the Police Service. He recently called on IGP Yohuno to address issues of unfair promotions within the institution
