Must Read

Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his commitment to removing taxes on mobile phones to make them more affordable for Ghanaians.

Speaking to a large crowd in Koforidua during his campaign tour of the Eastern Region, Dr Bawumia stressed the critical role mobile phones play in driving a digitised economy.

“One of the things I want to do as President, by the grace of God, is to remove taxes on mobile phones,” he said.

“We will remove the taxes so that the cost of mobile phones in Ghana will be cheaper.”

Dr Bawumia noted that the proposed tax removal is part of his broader vision for digital transformation and youth empowerment. He underscored the need for affordable mobile devices as essential tools for education, communication, and economic growth.

“With the work we are doing, the digitalisation, and the work we want to do with the youth, taxes on mobile phones ought to go, and I will take them off to make mobile phones cheaper and more affordable in Ghana,” he said.
