Inaki Williams is poised to rejoin the Black Stars camp today after successfully recovering from an illness, as confirmed by his club, Athletic Bilbao.
The Ghanaian striker fell ill earlier this week, preventing him from initially joining the team’s training camp.
Athletic Bilbao, in a previous statement, had emphasised the need for Williams to undergo a period of rest following the assessment of his condition.
However, in a recent update, the club announced, “Iñaki Williams has been assessed by Athletic Club’s medical services, who have confirmed the striker has recovered from the illness suffered during the last few days.
“Iñaki will travel to Ghana on Thursday morning to join the Black Stars’ training camp ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.”
The Black Stars had commenced their training camp in Kumasi on Tuesday, January 2, with 24 players in attendance.
Notably, Jordan Ayew and Richard Ofori are yet to join the team.
As part of their pre-tournament preparations, the Black Stars are scheduled to play a friendly against Namibia on January 8 at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, before heading to Ivory Coast shortly afterwards.
Ghana, placed in Group B for the Africa Cup of Nations, is set to face Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique in the competition, which spans from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
The Black Stars will kick off their campaign against Cape Verde at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on January 14, followed by a clash with Egypt four days later at the same venue.
The group stage concludes with a match against Mozambique at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on January 22
