Kadjebi Farmers Welcome First Downpour, Prepare to Plant

Must Read

Farmers in the Kadjebi District have expressed relief and excitement following a significant rainfall on Friday, February 21, breaking a prolonged dry spell.

The downpour, which lasted nearly two hours, has prompted many farmers to begin planting, especially maize, as they remain uncertain about the consistency of future rains.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Anani Avornyo, a resident of Kadjebi, stated that he plans to start planting his maize on Monday, February 24. Reflecting on the previous season, he noted that low rainfall had affected his yield, making it difficult to produce enough maize for consumption.

“With the unpredictable weather patterns we are experiencing, farmers must adopt new strategies to ensure successful planting,” he said.

Mr. John Kumah-Misiame, a farmer from Ketsi, also expressed concern over the delayed rains, saying that any further disruptions could threaten crop survival. “If we are not careful, the crops may wither because we cannot predict when the next rain will come,” he noted.

Madam Grace Ameza, another farmer, highlighted how erratic rainfall patterns have made farming more challenging. According to her, the rains should have started in late January, and the uncertainty makes it difficult to plan.

“For those of us who have already prepared our farmlands, it’s best to start planting immediately,” she said.

Despite the challenges, Madam Ameza remains optimistic about a good harvest this year, provided the rains continue through May.

The unexpected rainfall has rekindled hope among farmers in Kadjebi, who now look forward to a productive farming season.
