Must Read

Residents of Kadjebi have expressed their excitement over the nomination of Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong as the Oti Regional Minister-designate, describing the decision as fitting and well-deserved due to his political experience and dedication.

Mr. Joseph Kwadwo Ofori, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Akan, lauded the nomination, saying, “He deserves it because he has served the Party faithfully since 1992, rising through the ranks.”

Highlighting Mr. Gyapong’s contributions, Mr. Ofori noted that he served as the Volta Regional Chairperson for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) before continuing as Oti Regional Chairperson following the region’s creation in 2018. He added, “He led the NDC to win all Parliamentary seats in both the 2020 and 2024 elections.”

Despite his age, Mr. Gyapong actively participated in campaign activities, personally visiting constituencies to rally support for the NDC during the 2024 elections.

Former District Chief Executive for Kadjebi, Mr. Frank Seth Alifui, endorsed the nomination, emphasizing Mr. Gyapong’s competence. “He performed excellently as Regional Chair. I even thought he should be appointed as a Sector Minister, but being Regional Minister is still great,” he remarked.

Mr. Emmanuel Klu, Director of Elections for the NDC in Akan Constituency, called the nomination a significant milestone for the area. “It is good news for us in Akan. Finally, our efforts have been recognized,” he said.

A native of Kadjebi, Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong served as MP for Akan from 1992 to 2000 and again from 2005 to 2008. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Cape Coast.

The announcement of his nomination was contained in a letter from the Presidency’s Communications Directorate, dated Tuesday, January 14, 2025, as part of President Mahama’s first batch of Regional Minister appointments.
