Two galamseyers have been killed in a pit collapse at Konongo-Odumase in the Asante Akim Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Three illegal miners were trapped in the pit.
One escaped the disaster but the other two could not.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Municipality have confirmed that the incident occurred when the pit collapsed while the illegal miners were in its belly excavating gold deposits.
NADMO relied on a local excavator operator and the community members to retrieve the bodies from the pit.
The bodies are at the morgue for further examination and identification.
Such pit caves-ins have become commonplace in mining communities in Ghana despite efforts by the authorities to put a stop to illegal small-scale mining.
