Mahama dissolves Boards of corporations, commissions, others

Must Read

The Presidency has announced the cessation of appointments of all board members of statutory boards, corporations, commissions, and councils who were appointed by the former administration.

This decision follows the assumption of office by His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025.

In a formal notice issued on Monday, January 13, 2025, the Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, cited the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845) as the legal framework for this directive. The cessation applies to members appointed by the former president or former Ministers of State.

The announcement clarifies that the directive excludes commissions that operate as independent constitutional entities. It further states that the affected boards, commissions, and councils will be reconstituted in due course according to their respective enabling laws.

“The President takes this opportunity to thank all affected members for their service and wishes them well in their future endeavors,” the notice reads.

Until the reconstitution of these bodies, the management of all affected organizations is required to seek clearance from the Chief of Staff before making any major decisions.

This development underscores the legal and administrative adjustments that accompany the change in political leadership, ensuring alignment with the governing laws.
