In a dramatic operation triggered by a tip-off, Ghana’s National Security has uncovered a massive stash of cash and suspected gold bars hidden in a warehouse at Sapeiman in the Ga West Municipal Assembly.
Bundles of cedis, U.S. dollars, and counterfeit currency were found stuffed inside 20-foot containers, some of which were barricaded with plywood and concealed in sacks of charcoal to evade detection. Authorities also discovered large quantities of metals suspected to be gold bars, raising further suspicion of an underground smuggling operation.
The security agencies have since launched a manhunt for four prime suspects linked to the operation, with the alleged mastermind identified as Olias Alhaji. He and his accomplices remain on the run as security personnel intensify efforts to track them down.
Officials are working to establish the source of the seized money and metals while urging the public to provide any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.
This latest bust has heightened concerns over illicit financial activities and gold smuggling in the country. National Security has assured the public that all those involved will be brought to justice as investigations continue.
