NDC Chair Hails Kofi Adams’ Nomination as Minister-Designate for Sports and Recreation

Mr. Eric Adom, the Buem Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed his support for the nomination of Mr. Kofi Iddi Adams, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Buem Constituency, as Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Adom described the nomination as “good news,” citing Mr. Adams’ proven track record and leadership capabilities, which he believes will enable him to excel in his new portfolio.

The announcement was made in a letter dated January 21, titled “President Mahama Nominates Third Batch of Ministers,” issued by the Presidency Communications.

Mr. Adom, who previously served as Assemblyman for Bodada East Electoral Area (2010-2018), expressed confidence in Mr. Adams’ ability to approach the role with innovation and competence.

Mr. Kofi Iddi Adams, a former National Organiser of the NDC and Spokesperson for former President Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, has had a successful political career. He was elected MP for the Buem Constituency in the 2020 general elections with 18,528 votes, representing 71.84% of the total valid votes cast, defeating his closest opponent, Mr. Lawrence Kwami Aziale of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who secured 6,843 votes (26.5%).

In the 2024 elections, Mr. Adams retained his seat with 17,510 votes, surpassing his NPP challenger, Mr. Richard Adjei, who garnered 4,852 votes.

Born on May 2, 1975, in Teteman, a farming community in the Jasikan Municipality of the Oti Region, Mr. Adams is an avid boxing enthusiast. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology, specializing in the epidemiology of parasitic diseases.

His nomination has been widely welcomed, with many anticipating his contributions to the development of sports and recreation in Ghana.
