Former Chief of staff, Mr Julius Debrah has urged those mentioning his name as a possible running mate to Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama for the 2024 presidential elections to give him peace of mind to make his own choice of a running mate.
This was after his attention was drawn to calls by numerous interest groups and individuals for him to be nominated as Mahama’s running mate.
In a statement, Mr. Julius Debrah dissociated himself from the sentiments expressed in the media by these groups and individuals.
“Although such groups and persons might be motivated by a genuine trust and belief in my personal capabilities, I wish to emphasize that I have expressed no such intention anywhere,” he said.
He continued, “I have worked with President Mahama and continue to be a close confidante of his. I have garnered enough experience working with him to know that he makes the right Calls at the right time.”
Julius Debrah also stated Mr. Mahama is not the kind of person to be lobbied for such positions.
Meanwhile, he said, “I know his attention is currently seized with consultations with the FEC and CoE to fill outstanding positions of Vice Chairpersons, the various directorates of the party, fund-raising and helping the members of the proposed elections and IT directorates to hit the ground running.
He continued, “I’m grateful for the kind thought behind the sentiments expressed, but I would wish that President Mahama is given the peace of mind to make his choice of running mate at whatever time he deems appropriate.”
