New political party emerges in Ghana to contest 2024 elections

A fresh political entity named the People’s Redemption Movement (PRM) has emerged on the political stage in Ghana, rallying citizens to unite and work towards building a better future for the country.

Amidst a climate of apprehension, despondency, and unease that has engulfed the nation, the party’s leadership seeks to ignite renewed optimism among Ghanaians.

The interim General Secretary of PRM, Edward Adade, convened a press conference in Accra to unveil the party’s vision.

Mr Adade asserted that the party’s core mission was to rekindle the waning hopes of Ghanaians in the face of prevailing challenges. He cited concerns about the country’s political landscape and the resurgence of military interventions in neighboring West African countries as catalysts for the formation of this new political movement.

The party’s emblem, a majestic lion, stands as a symbol of strength and valor, poised to safeguard the nation against any form of abuse or mismanagement of state resources by individuals occupying high or low positions.

Mr Adade emphasied that the lion emblem also embodies notions of sovereignty, dignity, and reverence for Ghana’s citizens and its cultural ethos.

The PRM’s motto, “Open Government for Real Development,” reflects the party’s commitment to transparency and fostering genuine progress for the nation. Its official colors, black, red, and white, signify the party’s principles and aspirations.

Mr Adade noted that the trajectory of Ghanaian politics since the establishment of democratic governance in 1992 had been dominated by alternating periods of rule by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Yet, after three decades of democratic practice, disillusionment has set in due to escalating corruption, unemployment, insecurity, misuse of state resources, and poverty, all of which undermine the foundation of the nation’s democracy.

He said this discontent has given rise to a collective yearning for a novel political movement—one that restores confidence in the prospect of a harmonious society marked by justice, transparency, and selflessness to drive tangible development in Ghana.

The party’s abbreviation, PRM, adheres to conventional naming conventions, but they also identify with the acronym PEREMO as an alternative moniker that resonates with their aspirations.

Mr Adade affirmed that the party had obtained provisional certification from the Electoral Commission (EC), which grants them legal status to operate within the country. They are in the process of selecting its leadership team, which will be unveiled once their official presence is declared.

With a serious intention to participate in the 2024 presidential elections, PRM says it has diligently furnished the EC with all the requisite documents for certification, signifying their commitment to becoming a viable contender on the political spectrum.

Mr Adade emphasised that the movement’s ethos hinges on transparent governance and responsible resource management for the ultimate benefit of the Ghanaian people.
