Must Read

Parliament has announced a series of stringent security measures to be implemented during its proceedings on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. The move is aimed at ensuring the safety of the Hon. Speaker, Members of Parliament (MPs), and parliamentary staff amid growing concerns over security.

In a statement signed by WG CDR Frederick Bawa (Rtd.), Deputy Marshall of Parliament, the following directives have been outlined for strict compliance:

1. Thorough Screening: All MPs, staff, and members of the press will be subject to detailed security checks before entering the chamber. This is part of efforts to maintain a secure environment during the session.

2. Bodyguards Prohibited: Bodyguards of MPs will not be allowed inside the chamber during the proceedings. This measure ensures that only authorized personnel are present within the vicinity.

3. Parking and Drop-off Arrangements: Vehicles will not be allowed to park around the Grand Arena. MPs are required to use designated drop-off zones within the precincts of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), with directions to be provided by the Ghana Police Service.

4. Identification Tags Mandatory: MPs must wear their parliamentary identification tags at all times for entry into the chamber.

5. Restricted Access to Public Gallery: Access to the public gallery will be suspended until further notice. The chamber will be accessible to MPs and authorized personnel from 0800hrs.

The directive emphasizes that these measures are temporary but necessary to guarantee the safety of all participants during the parliamentary sessions.

“The security of our honorable members and staff is a top priority, and these steps are essential to ensure a smooth and safe parliamentary session,” said WG CDR Frederick Bawa.

The public is urged to comply with the restrictions, and further updates are expected in the coming days.
