Andrew Amoako Asiamah, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, has tasked the Defence and Interior Committee with investigating the police killing of five individuals suspected of being land guardians.
In addition, he urged the leadership of the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee to assist the Defence and Interior Committee with the investigation.
Sylvester Tetteh, the member of parliament for the area, and other legislators demanded that Parliament commence an investigation into the incident, which led to the decision to initiate an investigation.
The incident occurred in Bortianor on June 8 during an anti-theft and land security operation.
According to the police, the suspects were causing anxiety and distress among residents and homeowners in Bortianor and surrounding communities.
However, some residents have contested these claims, asserting that some of the individuals killed were not land guards but ordinary residents.
“We are making the referral to the committee of the Defence and Interior, and we are asking the leadership of the Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs to also join the Defence and Interior Committee and report back by the end of this month.”
