The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus in Parliament has accused President John Dramani Mahama of breaching Section 4(1) of the Presidential Office Act by appointing officers to his office without consulting the Council of State.
According to the Minority, the appointments made on January 21, 2025, occurred despite the Council of State not yet being constituted.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Mr. Patrick Boamah, NPP Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, highlighted the provisions of the Act. “Section 4(1) mandates that the President appoint officers in consultation with the Council of State,” he stated.
He argued that the President’s actions contravened the legal requirements of Act 463 and called for immediate corrective action. “We urge the President to withdraw the appointment letters and ensure compliance with the Act. At the very least, the letters could have acknowledged that these appointments are subject to ratification once the Council of State is constituted,” Mr. Boamah suggested.
The Minority has requested that all appointments be regularized in adherence to the law, emphasizing the importance of respecting constitutional provisions to maintain good governance.
