Must Read

The Office of the President has officially announced the cessation of board memberships for statutory boards, corporations, commissions and councils following the assumption of office by President John Dramani Mahama.

This directive is in accordance with the provisions of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845).

According to a notice issued by the Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, all individuals who were appointed to serve on these boards, commissions and councils by the former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo or a former Minister of State ceased to hold office as of January 7, 2025 – the date of President Mahama’s swearing-in.

The statement emphasised that the reconstitution of the affected boards, commissions, councils, and statutory corporations will take place in due course, in accordance with their respective enabling laws.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this excludes commissions that are independent constitutional creations”, the release clarified.

President Mahama, through the statement, also expressed gratitude to all outgoing members for their dedication and service to the nation, wishing them well in their future endeavors.

In addition, the notice directed the management of these statutory bodies to seek clearance from the Chief of Staff before making any further decisions, pending the reconstitution of their respective boards.
