Vice President Professor Nana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has joined the family of the late Dr. Rosina Acheampong, the first black Headmistress of Wesley Girls’ High School, to mourn her passing at a solemn one-week commemoration held at the Trinity United Church in Accra.
Dr. Acheampong, affectionately called “Archie,” passed away on January 1, 2025, at the age of 85. Her illustrious 40-year career at Wesley Girls’ High School included 16 years as Headmistress, during which she upheld the school’s high academic and disciplinary standards.
In her tribute, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang described Dr. Acheampong as a cherished friend and a mentor. She praised her visionary leadership, which shaped the lives of countless women who have gone on to make significant contributions in Ghana and beyond.
“Dr. Acheampong was not only a gem to Wesley Girls’ High School but also to the entire nation. Her leadership left an indelible mark on the lives of generations of women. We pray for comfort for her family and loved ones. May she rest in peace; she will be deeply missed,” she remarked.
The event also saw the presence of prominent personalities, including former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who joined in paying respects to the distinguished educator.
Dr. Acheampong’s legacy as a trailblazer and mentor remains a source of inspiration, cementing her place in the annals of Ghana’s educational history.
