Rev. Dr. Dzanku Condemns Post-Election Chaos, Calls for Adherence to Rule of Law

Reverend Dr. Lawson Kwaku Dzanku, Clerk of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, has called for strict adherence to the nation’s laws and regulations during transitional periods. He emphasized that respecting these rules is essential for fostering national harmony, social cohesion, and sustainable development.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Ho, Rev. Dr. Dzanku expressed concern over recent reports of property seizures, forceful takeovers, and vandalism following the general elections. He described these actions as destructive and unacceptable, noting that public and private properties are vital investments meant to serve the collective good.

“It is deeply troubling that some individuals use the cover of darkness to engage in these unlawful acts,” he remarked. “These structures, whether privately owned or state-funded, are for the benefit of all Ghanaians, and their destruction undermines national progress.”

Rev. Dr. Dzanku urged authorities to take decisive action against perpetrators, stressing that leniency or inaction could embolden others. “We must hold those responsible accountable under the law to set a strong precedent. These crimes should not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he asserted.

Reflecting on past transitions, Rev. Dr. Dzanku highlighted that similar incidents occurred after the 2016 elections, when party loyalists engaged in vandalism without facing significant consequences. “This lack of accountability created a dangerous precedent that seems to have repeated itself. If left unchecked, such behavior risks becoming a harmful tradition,” he warned.

He called on leaders to act swiftly to prevent further escalation and urged citizens to prioritize the nation’s laws and institutions. “As a nation governed by law, we must let these laws work. Our collective conscience should guide us to uphold what is right for the progress of Ghana,” he advised.

Rev. Dr. Dzanku also appealed to all Ghanaians to approach political transitions with maturity and respect for legal frameworks. “Let us be agents of peace and development rather than destruction. Our actions today shape the future we leave for generations to come,” he concluded.
