Samuel Awuku, Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), has officially resigned from his position, effective January 13, 2025.

In a letter addressed to President John Dramani Mahama, Awuku cited his election as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Akuapim North Constituency as the reason for his resresignation

Having been sworn into Parliament, Awuku expressed his intention to dedicate his efforts to serving his constituents, stating that the new role demands his undivided attention. “In light of this new responsibility, I wish to focus my efforts on serving as a Member of Parliament,” he explained in his letter.

Awuku was appointed as the Director-General of the NLA in August 2021, receiving confirmation from the Public Services Commission in July 2022. During his tenure, he oversaw the Authority’s operations, contributing to its mandate of regulating lottery activities in Ghana.

In his resignation letter, Awuku also requested the president to appoint a replacement to ensure a smooth transition and handover of responsibilities. “I kindly request that you appoint a replacement for the position of Director-General to facilitate a smooth transition,” he stated.

He concluded his letter by extending his best wishes to the president and reaffirming his commitment to public service in his new role as an MP.

Samuel Awuku’s resignation marks the end of his tenure at the NLA, paving the way for a new leadership to take over as the Authority continues its mandate. Meanwhile, his constituents in the Akuapim North Constituency look forward to his stewardship as their elected representative in Parliament.
