Speaker lifts suspension of four MPs

Must Read

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has lifted the suspension order placed on four Members of Parliament, namely Annoh Dompreh, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, and Alhassan Tampuli, following a brawl that occurred at the Appointments Committee.

The Speaker initially found the actions of the suspended MPs disorderly and dishonorable, leading to their suspension from parliamentary sittings for two weeks.

However, the Minority in Parliament raised concerns and protested the decision, arguing that the Speaker was overstepping his powers. Some civil society organizations (CSOs) also joined calls for the Speaker to reconsider his decision.

Today in Parliament, after listening to both sides of the House, the Speaker agreed to lift the suspension order and made an official statement announcing the decision.

This means that the four MPs can now resume their parliamentary duties, including their roles as Members of the Appointments Committee.
