The state attorney has withdrawn all previous charges against defunct Menzgold CEO Nana Appiah Mensah.
New charges were filed today, November 17, 2023, with amendments to some figures involved in the case.
Director of Prosecution Yvonne Atakora explained that the changes were made in the best interest of justice, leading to the adjournment of the case to December 4, 2023, to allow NAM1’s legal team sufficient time to review the new charges.
The presiding judge has also instructed enhanced security measures at the court entrance, following an incident where NAM1’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) was reportedly struck on the forehead after a previous hearing.
Aggrieved customers of Menzgold, seeking the release of their funds since the company’s suspension in 2018, filled the courtroom, prompting heightened security inside and outside the premises.
Nana Appiah Mensah is currently on trial for allegedly defrauding over 16,000 people of GH¢1.68 billion.
A few weeks ago, NAM1 cliamed he deposited GH¢5 million with the police for disbursement to some of the aggrieved clients but Attorney General Godfred Dame later told parliament only half that amount was deposited by the businessman.
The amount has been deposited at the Bank of Ghana.
