Two Nigerians are in the grips of the Kasoa Divisional Police Command for being in possession of an AK 48 assault rifle and 48 rounds of ammunitions.
The suspects Ikena Chiwetalu 38 and and Christian Odikah 34 were arrested on July 13 while the Police patrols were on a stop and search duty at Lamptey on the Kasoa Amansaman main stretch of the road.
Police sources say on July 13, 2023 while Police were conducting a search at Lamptey on the Kasoa Amasaman stretch they spotted a Amansaman Kasoa bound sprinter bus coming from Amasaman with five male adults on board including the driver and his mate.
The Police became suspicious of the demeanor of three of the passengers prompting a search by the team on duty.
After a thorough search the police found wrapped leaves suspected to be narcotics in the pocket of Ikena Chiweretalu.
A further search in the vehicle lead to the discovery of an AK 47assault rifle, and a magazine loaded with 28 live ammunition and another 20 live ammunition hidden in a dove body lotion container all concealed in a black bag pack hidden under the seat.
“The driver and his mate also pointed out the suspects together one other Nigerian as owners of the bag pack whom they claimed boarded the vehicle from Amasaman train line”the driver of the vehicle who gave his name as Kofi told the media.
One of the suspect manged to escape while the two suspects arrested are being prepared for court to be properly remanded to enable thorough investigation.
The Kasoa Akweley Magistrate Court convicted the two accused persons to serve twenty four months each on the case of the narcotics and adjourned the substantive serious case to enable the police complete their investigation and prosecution at the higher court since it did not have the jurisdiction on those serious matters.
